Nintendo has revealed details of a cyber-attack which resulted in up to 160,000 customer accounts being illegally accessed by hackers.

At the beginning of April 2020, customers began noticing suspicious activity on their accounts when their payment details were used to purchase other digital goods via Nintendo’s online stores. The data breach occurred when hackers accessed Nintendo Network ID (NNID). Nintendo confirmed it was disabling all NNID accounts and have urged users not to share passwords across multiple accounts.

Other personal information such as names, date of birth, gender and email addresses may also have been stolen in the cyber-attack.

Nintendo has asked all customers to contact their banks if they notice any unusual or suspicious activity on their accounts.
